In father’s footsteps…

After hr catches up with father- son duo who run Marvel Art Gallery
in Ahmedabad. The gallery recently won an award.

This is one father-son team which is very well-known in the art world.
Dhanvi Shah and Chaitya Dhanvi Shah are the head honchos of the
city’s very own Marvel Art Gallery. Both father and son were recently
bestowed with the title of ‘Fine Art Printer of the Year 2011’ in Mumbai,
the only ones to have received it from across India.

After hrs speaks to the father-son duo and gets to know that Chaitya
will now be handling most of his father’s art business. “It is challenging
for me but my education has helped me understand this line. Also, I am
privileged to be guided by my father who has tremendous knowledge
of his business,” says Chaitya.

As for the father he says with great pride,”He handles it really well. The entire
burden of making catalogues for art shows we organise is on him. I have
complete faith in him.” The veteran, who has been in this field for close to three
decades, has great plans for his art gallery and wants to take it to the next
bigger level.

The duo were the first timers at this award event, and were declared the winners
for its limited edition of serigraph works of artists like Akbar Padamsee,
Amit Ambalal, Shanti Dave and KG Subrmanyam. Most of the work had more than
25 tones of colours/screens with somerset radiant and fabriano papers, all of
which brought to light the life giving strokes of the artists.

According to the judges,Marvel Art Gallery’s works have pushed what screen
printers often do, that is make use of reduction technique to create stunningly
realistic images in colour and tones, to a higher level. According to them, the
biggest challenge was creating gold colour in KG Subramanyam’s work.
