Arts Printer of the Year’
Chaitya D. Shah, Director shares his joy at receiving the award at PrintWeek 2019
In its 11th year, the PrintWeek Awards 2019, held on December 2, 2019 in Sofitel, Mumbai, again put the spotlight on the best of print and packaging in India. The Award show, held in an open air venue for the first time, saw both established and upcoming print and packaging firms vie for the coveted Prism, recognised as the industry benchmark for quality and performance.
Dhanvi Rasiklal Shah Arts Company won ‘Fine Arts Printer of the Year’ for the 9th consecutive year at Printweek Awards 2019. It is our innovation, passion and love for Indian Art + Serigraphy that makes our work the best in India. Through these serigraphs we want to take Indian art to every house globally. A 22-member jury panel comprising of print customers, creative designers and experts gathered at the Sofitel on October 31 to evaluate over 831 samples. After much scrutiny, 87 companies were shortlisted for the Awards.
72 SCREEN PRINT INDIA – December 2019
It appears that nothing can beat the quality of Dhanvi Rasiklal Shah Arts Company, formerly, Marvel Graphic Studio. Evidence? It breaks its own record to be the Printweek Fine Art Printer of the Year for nine consecutive years. For the sample, Ganesh, as the subject of the artwork is calm and sober, we took the same approach for the serigraphs. We call it conceptual printing whereby we print according to the concept and demand of the work. So we used earthy colour and watercolour effect to make it look more approachable.
Around 450 copies of serigraph on paper in 10 x 12.5 inches were made. In the sample, Untitled, each inch has tones, where one can literally feel the mix of acrylic and watercolor. The transparency and clarity of each tone and colour is clearly visible. Around 125 copies of serigraph on paper in 28.25 x 22.5-inches were made using 104 screens. For the sample, Yogini 2, was a challenge to use several tones of blue side by side, as the density and opacity of each tone had to be brought out.
The highlight of this serigraph is the perfect registration. 125 copies of serigraph on paper in 35.5 x 24.75 inches were made using 91 screens. For the sample, Yogini 3, the challenge was to use several tones of green side by side, Each tone had to be made visible, without mixing the lighter green with dark green. The highlight of the serigraph is that each tone and stroke has been given its own value and significance. Around 125 copies of serigraph on paper in 35.5 x 27.5 inches were made using 91 screens.
Zac Hollis, director for sales, service and marketing at Skoda Auto India was the chief guest for the Awards Night. As usual with all editions of PrintWeek Awards, this year too was interesting and exciting with Denzil Smith hosting the show.
