Ahmedabad art market sells MF Husain on EMI

Ahmedabad is set to redefine the art market. A gallery is offering
masterpieces by the likes of MF Husain, Akbar Padamsee and SH
Raza on equated monthly instalments (EMI) with other galleries
likely to follow suit.
“We are allowing buyers to pay in instalments. The EMI will depend
on the salary and the paying capacity of the buyer,” said Dhanvi Shah of
Marvel Art Gallery. The instalment period will range from three to six
months, the minimum amount to avail the facility being Rs10,000.
The gallery will ask for guarantors and legal documents but will not charge
interest for the deferred payment.
More than a hundred paintings will be available under the scheme. The works
are by artists including Haku Shah, Vrindavan Solanki, Shanti Dave, Manoj
Kachangal, Bansi Khatri, Harshil Patel and Prexa Kapadia.
“There are people who want to buy art but cannot afford it. If a gallery comes
up with an instalment scheme, nothing is better than that,” said Bharti Verma of
Anayas Art Gallery. “After weighing the pros and cons, I too may introduce the
scheme.”
